The Honda HA-420 HondaJet is a low wing monoplane developed by Honda Aircraft Company. It was designed in Japan between 1997 to 1999 and then developed and manufactured in the United States. The HondaJet was announced in 2006 and took its maiden flight, production model, on 27 June, 2014. Type certification was received from the FAA in December 2015 and from EASA in May 2016, and the first customer delivery was made on 23 December, 2015.
The HondaJet has a composite fuselage with two engines mounted on pylons above the aluminium wing; a configuration that frees the aft fuselage for extra internal space within the same dimensions and minimises airflow wave drag at high speed. It is powered by two GE Honda HF120 turbofans, each giving 2,050 lbf thrust. HondaJet has a retractable tricycle landing gear with both main and nose landing gear single-wheeled.
The HondaJet Elite has an expanded performance envelope, improved interior and updated flight deck. The type certificate was amended by the FAA and EASA in May 2018 and deliveries commenced on 7 August, 2018.
October 2019 saw the first HondaJet Elite in medevac configuration for air ambulance use, and another flew to the 2019 NBAA using sustainable aviation fuel.
In May 2021 Honda unveiled the Elite S, featuring new avionics upgrades, the Advanced Steering Augmentation System and an increased maximum takeoff weight of 200 lbs.
