Universal gains approval for Connected FMS on Part 25 aircraft
The company's tablet integration has reduced update time and enabled two-way syncing of flight plans across supported business aircraft types.

FAA certification has been granted for Universal Avionics’ Connected Avionics solution on Part 25 aircraft, enabling installation of its wi-Fi-enabled flight management system (FMS). The Approved Model List STC provides the baseline for integration across supported types.

The system links Universal’s FMS with its FlightPartner iPad apps to streamline planning throughout all flight phases. Database updates and flight plans can be uploaded or synced wirelessly, cutting update times by up to 45 minutes and improving pre-flight efficiency.

Pilots can input and view flight data from their tablets both on the ground and in the air. Route details like fuel and weight can be sent from the iPad to the FMS, reducing manual data entry. Flight data is collected automatically for analysis via the FlightReview app, and for trend monitoring using third-party tools.

“When time equals money, being able to save time and adjust flight plans on the go is pivotal for enhancing operational efficiency,” said Dror Yahav, CEO of Universal Avionics. “Seamless database updates and agile, real-time flight planning on an iPad interface are now a reality on these aircraft, thanks to a combination of efforts to receive extensive cybersecurity approvals.”

The Connected FMS was developed with embedded cybersecurity and will be available across all certified FMS platforms, including Bombardier CL601, Cessna Citations, Falcon jets, Gulfstream types, Hawkers, Learjets, ATRs, Dash 8s, Embraer 145s and the Saab 340A/B.
