The Learjet 45 (LJ45) is a super light business jet produced by Bombardier Aerospace. Development began in 1989 and the first flight of the prototype took place on 7 October, 1995. FAA certification was granted in September 1997 and the first customer delivery was made in 1998.
The clean sheet design replaced the Learjet 35 series. Its flat floor cabin was modelled first and the rest was built around it. The Model 45 used a lighter, less robust structure than previous Learjets, affording lower manufacturing costs and lower aircraft empty weights that gave improved capacity, efficiency and some performance enhancement. However, it retained the semi-swept wing, T-tail, sharp nose and wrap-around windshield, and incorporated delta fins and winglets.
The Learjet 45 is powered by two DEEC-controlled Honeywell TFE731-20AR engines, a 20 FADEC equipped version developed specifically for this airframe, each offering 3,500 pounds of thrust. A typical cabin configuration features nine passenger and two crew seats. The flight deck features a four screen Honeywell Primus 1000 integrated avionics suite.
The Learjet 45XR was introduced in June 2004. Upgraded TFE731-20BR engines, flat-rated to 3,500 lbf, give higher take off weights, faster cruise speeds and faster time-to-climb rates.
On 12 February, 2021 Bombardier announced it would end production of all Learjet aircraft by the end of the year.
