The Gulfstream G200 is a twin-engine business jet designed originally by Israel Aerospace Industries, where it was known as the Astra Galaxy. The programme officially launched in September 1993. Design work began in the early 1990s and the aircraft was produced for Gulfstream from 1999.
The Galaxy itself first flew on 25 December, 1997. By the end of 1998 it had received certification from the US and Israeli aviation agencies and deliveries began the following year. The Galaxy was renamed G200 after Gulfstream’s acquisition of IAI’s subsidiary Galaxy Aerospace in June 2001.
The G200 was manufactured in Tel Aviv and then flown to Gulfstream’s mid cabin completions centre in Dallas for interior outfitting and paint. It has wide body cabin dimensions accommodating eight to 10 in executive style arrangements, or up to 18 in a three abreast corporate shuttle configuration.
It is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306A turbofans, each with a thrust of 6,040 lbf, and can maintain a sea level cabin at 23,000 ft, or an 8,000 ft cabin at 45,000 ft.
The final G200 rolled off the production line on 19 December, 2011; 250 units had been built.
