Overview

The King Air 200 is a continuation of the twin turboprop aircraft line produced by Beechcraft. Originally named the Super King Air 200, the Super prefix was dropped in 1996 by new owner Raytheon.

Design work began in October 1970, and the type's first flight took place on 27 October, 1972. The King Air 200 was certificated in mid December 1973 and the first civil delivery took place in February 1974.

The 200 has a T-tail, as well as more powerful engines, greater wing area and span, increased cabin pressurisation, greater fuel capacity and higher operating weights than the King Air 100. It is powered by two 850 shp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A41 turboprops driving three blade constant speed propellers. There is seating for up to 13 passengers in the main cabin plus one beside the pilot.

In 1976, Beechcraft developed the 200T for aerial surveying or reconnaissance. Next came the 200C in 1979, with a large cargo door with built in airstair door at the rear, and in 1981 it was modified as the 200CT, with the same wingtip fuel tanks as on 200Ts.

The B200 entered production in May 1980. It has more efficient 850 shp rated PT6A42 engines, and sub variants include the B200C with a large cargo door, the B200T with removable tip tanks, and the B200CT with tip tanks and cargo door.

The Special Edition B200SE was certificated in October 1995 and features an EFIS avionics suite as standard. The B200GT was introduced on 21 May, 2007, offering improved aircraft performance, and both it and the B200CGT with large cargo door were certified by the FAA on 16 November, 2007.

On 2 December, 2020, Textron updated the King Air 200 series with the 260. The model has an Innovative Solutions & Support ThrustSense autothrottle system, digital pressurisation controller plus greater range and cruise speed. The type was certificated by the FAA in March 2021. Up to nine passengers can be accommodated in the upgraded cabin.
