Flightstar improves data comms in LR40 and LR45
Flightstar believes that its latest STC will extend the capabilities of two popular Learjet models well into the future with an upgrade to current Universal comms equipment.

The US FAA has issued an STC to Flightstar Corporation for data communications in the Bombardier Learjet 40 and 45. This STC allows for the utilisation of both Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications Clearance Delivery (CPDLC DCL) and Aeronautical Telecommunications Network Baseline 1 (ATN B1) CPDLC capabilities. An additional option to incorporate Future Air Navigation System (FANS) 1/A+ abilities are available with ATN B1 CPDLC and CPDLC DCL configurations.

“We are excited to offer this STC for the Bombardier Learjet 40 and 45 with four available variations,” states Flightstar's avionics sales manager, Greg Vail. “Our solution adds value and will extend the aircraft's capabilities far into the future. We will additionally be offering a second STC in the future for the UA UNS-1Ew FMS Software Control Number 1002.1 update. This software upgrade will allow the utilisation of “push-to-load” capabilities in the Learjet 40 and 45.”

The Flightstar CPDLC STC requires a pre-existing Universal Avionics UNS-1Ew SBAS-FMS. Integration of a UA UniLink UL-801 Communications Management Unit and a CVR-120 Cockpit Voice Recorder, with or without RIPS. Operators have the choice of two different mounting locations for the CVR cockpit controller unit to fit with varying cockpit pedestal configurations. Aircraft can be upgraded with FANS 1/A+ capabilities by an optional installation of a Satcom Direct Iridium Data Link Unit. Approval of the STC by EASA is currently under review.
