APS launches Citation-focused upset recovery training
Aircraft-specific scenarios have been developed to help Citation crews prepare for LOC-I threats beyond normal flight operations.
The programme incorporates Citation-specific operational scenarios and threat profiles across virtual reality, advanced simulator sessions and in-aircraft upset recovery training.

Aviation Performance Solutions (APS) has launched a Citation Jet Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) programme aimed at helping pilots address Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I), one of the leading causes of fatal accidents in aviation.

The programme has been developed specifically for Citation operators, incorporating aircraft-specific threat profiles, operational scenarios and learning objectives across virtual reality, advanced simulation and on-aircraft training environments.

The training is designed to reflect the challenges Citation crews encounter in day-to-day operations rather than applying a generic approach across multiple aircraft types.

“Most pilots are highly proficient at operating their aircraft within the normal flight envelope,” says Paul “BJ” Ransbury, CEO of APS. “But loss of control events don't occur during normal operations. Our goal is to provide Citation pilots with relevant exposure, practical strategies and progressively advanced training experiences that improve preparedness before they ever face that unexpected situation in the real world.”

Training scenarios include wake turbulence upsets, low-altitude go-around stalls, skidded stalls, high-altitude manual handling challenges and upset events involving Mach and compressibility effects.

To encourage participation, APS is offering a limited number of Founding Participant positions in the Citation Jet Simulator UPRT programme from $4,795 per pilot, alongside preferred pricing for crews and flight departments. Pilots completing the simulator course during the launch period will receive full tuition credit towards a future integrated on-aircraft Citation UPRT programme.

“We wanted to remove barriers for operators who may be exploring UPRT for the first time,” adds Ransbury. “This allows pilots and flight departments to begin with a Citation-focused simulator programme, experience the value of advanced upset training firsthand and then continue into more immersive training without losing their initial investment.”
