Citation M2 Gen2 autothrottles gain European and Brazilian approval
Latest regulatory clearances have extended Garmin's automated thrust-management system into two major international markets.
Powered by two Williams FJ44-1AP-21 engines, the aircraft has a maximum cruise speed of 404kt, a range of 1,550nm and can operate from runways as short as 3,210ft.

Textron Aviation has secured validation from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Brazil's Agencia Nacional de Aviacao Civil (ANAC) for the Cessna Citation M2 Gen2 equipped with Garmin autothrottles, clearing the aircraft for customer deliveries across Europe and Brazil.

The approvals expand international availability of the system, which entered service earlier this year following FAA certification in 2025, and further extend the reach of what Textron describes as the most-delivered light-entry jet in its segment.

“For our customers, these validations unlock access to technology that helps simplify flying in some of the world's most complex operating environments,” says Lannie O'Bannion, senior vice president, sales and marketing. “The Citation M2 Gen2 with Garmin autothrottles delivers an intuitive cockpit experience, helping pilots manage workload with greater confidence.”

Garmin's autothrottle system automatically manages engine thrust to maintain target speeds throughout flight while providing over-speed and under-speed protection. Designed to reduce pilot workload during climbs, descents and approaches, the technology allows pilots to focus more closely on situational awareness and operational decision-making, particularly in busy terminal environments.

The latest approvals build on a certification programme that included nearly 300 flight-test hours before the system received FAA approval and entered service on the M2 Gen2 platform.

“Earning ANAC and EASA validation for the Citation M2 Gen2 with Garmin autothrottles reinforces Textron's proven ability to certify advanced aircraft efficiently across global regulatory authorities,” says Chris Hearne, senior vice president, engineering and programmes. “This achievement reflects our deep certification expertise and our continued commitment to delivering pilot-focused innovation that meets the highest international safety standards.”Textron Aviation says the dual validation demonstrates its ability to secure certification across multiple regulatory jurisdictions while supporting operators with consistent approval pathways across international markets.

The M2 Gen2 forms part of the company's continuing investment in the Citation light jet family and includes cabin upgrades such as ambient accent lighting, wireless charging capability, USB-A and USB-C power ports and an optional folding side-facing seat that can be converted into additional baggage space. The cockpit also incorporates additional legroom for the co-pilot position.

Textron is also developing the Citation M2 Gen3, which is expected to enter service in 2027.
