Midwest Flying Service has again secured its designation as a Wyvern Wingman Certified Operator through the Flight Leader Programme, supported by ongoing quarterly coaching from Wyvern.
The Wyvern Wingman standard, the first air charter audit standard in the aviation industry, establishes a recognised safety benchmark that enables air charter customers to evaluate operator performance against industry best practices.
Midwest Flying Service is a family-run aviation company based in Sheldon, Iowa, and has provided charter flights and specialised air transportation solutions since 1992. The operator runs a fleet that includes Citation jets and the Piper Cheyenne, capable of flying between 1,200 and 3,500 nautical miles while accommodating between six and nine passengers. The company also conducts medical evacuation and organ transplant flights.
“Safety is our number one priority, especially when supporting life-saving transplant missions,” says Nicholas Vust, chief pilot at Midwest Flying Service. “Achieving Wyvern Wingman Level 3 SMS is a direct reflection of our unwavering commitment to the highest safety standards for our transplant teams, patients and partners.”
Achieving Wingman status requires meeting some of the industry’s most rigorous safety criteria. The evaluation covers compliance management systems, internal evaluation programmes, safety management systems, human factors management, safety culture analysis, risk management policies and procedures, emergency response planning and training programmes.
“Midwest Flying Service's successful renewal of its Wyvern Wingman certification is truly commendable,” says Andrew Day, COO at Wyvern. “Its unwavering dedication to safety, professionalism and operational excellence reflects the core values of the Wyvern Wingman programme and sets an outstanding example for the broader aviation community.”
