Gogo secures STC for DC Ka-band terminal on G280
The DC-powered system was installed by Jet Aviation in Basel for a German-owned jet and is now globally available through authorised centres.
The installation on a German-owned G280 was completed by Jet Aviation in Basel.

Gogo has secured European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approval for a direct current variant of its Plane Simple Ka-band terminal for Gulfstream G280 aircraft. The milestone marks the first time the system has received regulatory clearance for DC rather than alternating current power.

The DC-powered terminal is compatible with the Viasat Jet ConneX service, providing high-speed broadband for crew and passengers aboard the super midsize jet. The approval was achieved in partnership with Gulfstream and Jet Aviation, with the antenna fitted at Jet Aviation’s Basel maintenance facility. The solution is now available through authorised Gulfstream and Jet Aviation service centres worldwide.

The first unit has been installed for a German automotive supplier seeking to enhance connectivity during global operations. The antenna enables use of data-intensive functions such as video calls, streaming and file transfers, and will integrate with both current and future Viasat GX satellites.

Gogo says the system’s streamlined two-unit architecture minimises installation times and maintenance while preserving cabin space. It was developed alongside QEST, which specialises in aeronautical antennas.

Gogo’s senior vice president sales for EMEA, Dave Falberg, says: “The latest STC in our growing portfolio showcases our commitment to delivering a portfolio of products that enables every type of business aircraft operator to access our connectivity services. We can modify our products to integrate with the varying requirements and configurations of in-service airframes while simultaneously equipping a connectivity system purpose-built to maintain pace with the changing connectivity landscape. We are determined to make our connectivity options available to every owner that seeks high-speed broadband, and this STC confirms we are on track to meet the diverse missions of our business aviation, military and government customers.”

The company also provides service plans under the Gulfstream connectivity service programme for both current production and legacy aircraft.
