Modern Aviation is set to take over fixed base operator (FBO) services at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) from 30 June 2025, marking its 18th location and second in North Carolina. The City of Charlotte selected Modern following a competitive bidding process, awarding a 20-year management contract with renewal options.
CLT chief business and innovation officer Ted Kaplan says, “Modern Aviation presented an exceptional proposal that delivers significant value that aligns seamlessly with CLT's strategic goals and vision for the future.”
Modern plans to upgrade the FBO terminal, with construction expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026. It will also incorporate local vendors into procurement processes and offer employment to existing FBO staff.
CEO Mark Carmen states, “We are thrilled to partner with the City of Charlotte to bring Modern Aviation's industry-leading service to Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Adding CLT to the Modern network represents a significant milestone for our company, and we look forward to serving the aviation community at CLT while investing in its future.”
The FBO at CLT includes over 220,000 square feet of hangar space and 100,000 square feet of office space. FAA data ranks CLT as the 29th busiest general aviation airport in the US by business jet traffic. The expansion brings Modern’s network to 18 locations across the US and Puerto Rico.
