Electra.aero and Hunch Mobility to introduce hybrid-electric aircraft in India
The collaboration will provide sustainable and quiet regional air travel to underserved areas, enhancing connectivity and reducing travel times.
Amit Dutta, managing director, Hunch Mobility, meets Marc Ausman, vice president, sales and support at Electra.

Indian urban air mobility platform Hunch Mobility has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Electra.aero, a US-based aerospace company, to introduce Electra's EL9 hybrid-electric aircraft to India. The agreement was formalised at the recent India Urban Air Mobility Expo 2025 in Greater Noida.

Electra's nine-passenger EL9 aircraft can take off and land in under 150 feet and recharge its batteries mid-flight, making it suitable for compact spaces like soccer fields and parking lots. This capability allows for direct air connectivity to regions beyond large airports, addressing India's pressing mobility challenges.

Amit Dutta, managing director, Hunch Mobility, says: "Our partnership with Electra represents a significant step forward in our mission to reduce travel friction and offer cost-effective air transportation alternatives. The EL9 aircraft will enable us to expand our services and provide a seamless transition to electric air mobility for our customers.

“We are excited to partner with Hunch Mobility to bring our EL9 aircraft to the Indian market,” adds Marc Ausman, vice president, sales and support at Electra. “This partnership combines Electra's innovative aircraft technology with Hunch Mobility's operational expertise and market presence to deliver cleaner, quieter and faster transportation options that address India's pressing mobility challenges.”

The collaboration between Electra and Hunch will focus on identifying route networks optimsed for the EL9’s capabilities, bringing affordable, sustainable and quiet on-demand air travel to one of the world's fastest-growing and most congested transportation markets.

Operating under the Blade India brand, Hunch has been very active in India's urban air mobility sector. In March 2023, Hunch entered into a strategic partnership with Jaunt Air Mobility to launch eVTOL aircraft operations in India and the subcontinent by 2027. This collaboration includes Hunch's intended acquisition of 150 Jaunt Journey aircraft, with an option for an additional 100 to meet projected demand over the next decade. Then, in November 2023, Hunch partnered with Eve Air Mobility to introduce electric commuter flights in Bangalore, aiming to provide residents with an efficient and affordable mode of transportation.
