Excel retrofit expert Elliot gains approval for cabin LEDs
Elliott Aviation has contracted for a 14th Garmin G5000 retrofit aboard a Citation Excel/XLS, and completed approvals for its LED cabin lighting on the same type.

Elliott Aviation has received an STC for its Prizm brand LED lighting and electronically dimmable Smart Vision Shades brand of electronic window shades. The company is currently manufacturing products and will be available for approved dealers and aircraft manufacturers in early 2019 under the Elliott Technologies brand.

Prizm cabin LED lighting features full color spectrum mood lighting controlled through a mobile app or existing cabin lighting controls. It is available for up wash, down wash, lower accent, galley, lavatory and cupholders. The system has custom preset mood lighting configuration and allows for customer selectable preset lighting configurations. Prizm lighting is expandable to meet the needs of most turbine powered business aircraft.

Smart Vision Shades are electronically dimmable inner window panes with five different colours of dimmable film. When combined with Prizm cabin lighting, they can be controlled with an app available on a smart phone, or with the built-in controls. They feature individual variable control at each window and are 99 per cent UV blocking.

“Aircraft repair stations and refurbishment centres have been looking for a solution that is both well-designed and cost-effective for LED lighting and electronically dimmable window shades,” says Mark Wilken, vice president of avionics programmes and operational logistics for Elliott Aviation. “Prizm cabin lighting and Smart Vision Shades were designed with both the aircraft operator and repair station in mind. They're easy to use, easy to install and will be available at a price point that is affordable to the end user.”

The STC was completed in a Citation Excel.

The company now also has 14 Citation Excel/XLS Garmin G5000 retrofit preorder signed agreements in hand.

As the first company to install a Garmin G5000 retrofit, which was in a 2006 Hawker 400XP, Elliott Aviation has installed more than 15 Garmin G5000 systems in Beechjet 400A/Hawker 400XP aircraft. In addition to G5000 experience, it has installed over 325 Garmin G1000 systems in King Airs, more than all other dealers in the world combined.

The Citation Excel and XLS Garmin G5000 retrofit programme is a full retrofit that replaces all existing Honeywell Primus 1000 avionics, including the autopilot and flight director system. The Citation Excel and XLS G5000 retrofit significantly reduces the avionics cost of ownership and offers weight savings, ADS-B Out, WAAS/LPV, an integrated engine indication and crew alerting system and a dual-channel digital flight control system. The G5000 system has options that include synthetic vision, turbulence detection, SurfaceWatch, underspeed protection and Chartview. Additional options such as CPDLC Link 2000 services, FANS 1/A, lightning and hail prediction will be added as future options.

“Leading the industry in Citation Excel and XLS Garmin G5000 installations is a big achievement,” says Conrad Theisen, director of avionics sales. “We look forward to using our unmatched experience of installing hundreds of G1000 and G5000 systems to use for our Citation Excel and XLS customers.”

The Garmin G5000 system for the Citation Excel and XLS is expected to be certified and available to install in 2019.
