Bell responds to customers' demands with 417
The helicopter, which features a Chelton glass cockpit, offers greater power and payload, as well as improved hot and high performance, over the Bell 407. It is powered by Honeywell's HTS900 turbine engine, which delivers more than 970 SHP.

Bell Helicopter unveiled its latest model at Heli-Expo in Dallas on February 26. "The Bell 417 is our answer to the customers' demand for a powerful single engine helicopter with unmatched hot and high hover capability," announced ceo Mike Redenbaugh.

"We have used the voice of the customer to drive many of the decisions we have made on the Bell 417, from concept definition to development."

The helicopter, which features a Chelton glass cockpit, offers greater power and payload, as well as improved hot and high performance, over the Bell 407. It is powered by Honeywell's HTS900 turbine engine, which delivers more than 970 SHP.

The company states that the aircraft's 'bubble cockpit' provides greater headroom over its predecessor, and the cabin will accommodate five passengers in club seating.

Commenting on the progress of the 417 programme, executive director John Ricciardelli said: "We will be flying the Bell 417 prototype in April of this year and hope to complete certification in early 2008."
