Thales has been chosen by Sikorsky Aircraft to jointly develop a new cockpit for the S-76D helicopter, which is planned for delivery at the end of 2008.

The cockpit design will feature large format displays for improved visibility and situational awareness. A full motion Level D simulator will be available for pilot training once the first aircraft is delivered.

The upgrades will include all-composite rotor blades, a rotorcraft icing protection system and new Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210 engines.

Sikorsky is scheduled to deliver its 600th aircraft in the S-76 series later this year.
