Tanis preheat system gains STC approval for TBM 700
Approval covers every TBM 700-series turboprop from the original TBM 700 to the TBM 980, with multipoint heating for engine, gearboxes, battery, avionics and cabin.
Kits are offered in 115V and 230V versions and carry a five-year warranty.

Tanis Aircraft Products, a division of Hartzell Propeller, has received supplemental type certificate (STC) approval for its preheating system across the complete Daher TBM 700 model series. The company has also won parts manufacturer approval (PMA) for the system's kit.

Building on Tanis engine preheating systems for Pratt & Whitney turbine engines, the STC covers all Daher TBM 700-series turboprops, from the original TBM 700 through to the recently certificated TBM 980. It applies to all serial numbers and model years over the TBM's more than 35 years in service.

The Tanis TBM kit uses a multipoint, self-regulating configuration to deliver preheating to the turboprop's overall powerplant installation, including the engine, propeller reduction gearbox, oil cooler, fuel control unit, accessory gearbox and battery, among other components. The system also provides avionics and cabin preheating, with LED power indication and circuit overload protection.

“This new Tanis system gives TBM owners and operators a comprehensive preheat solution designed to support easier cold-weather starts, while providing protection and supporting reliability of critical aircraft systems,” says JJ Frigge, president of Hartzell Propeller. “Beyond the operational benefits, it also creates a more comfortable experience for passengers by allowing the aircraft to be warm and ready before they ever step on board,” he adds.

Preheating reduces thermal shock and helps components reach operating temperatures gradually, reducing cold-weather wear on internal components, seals and accessories. Preheated aircraft also reach operating temperatures faster, reducing run-up time, fuel consumption and unnecessary ground operation. A stable, moderate cabin temperature supports the performance and long-term health of flight deck electronics where dispatch reliability is critical.

The Tanis TBM system will be available in both North American (115V) and European (230V) voltage versions. Kits can be ordered directly through the Hartzell Preheat website or through an authorised reseller or distributor, and are backed by a five-year warranty. The system adds to the Tanis line of preheating solutions already available for the turboprop and rotorcraft markets.
