Ocean starts work on $67.2m Miami campus
A September 9 groundbreaking marked the beginning of construction on Ocean Aviation's flagship FBO at Miami Executive Airport, days after its Fort Lauderdale acquisition.
The planned KTMB FBO will accommodate up to 400,000 sq ft of hangar space across communal and private configurations, a terminal and a fuel farm.

Ocean Aviation broke ground on 9 September 2026 on its flagship FBO campus at Miami Executive Airport (KTMB), an investment of at least $67.2 million. The groundbreaking followed the firm's acquisition of National Jets at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (KFLL), its second major south Florida commitment.

Established in 2024 with a 40-year, 40-acre ground lease at KTMB, the development will accommodate up to 400,000 sq ft of hangar space across communal and private configurations, a terminal and a fuel farm. It will also include a 32,000 sq ft common-use taxi lane and ramp serving US Customs and Border Protection, and a new home for the Wings Over Miami Air Museum.

Lemartec is delivering the project under a design-build model, with Schenkel Shultz as design partner, bringing together aviation planning, design and construction under one integrated team.

The KFLL acquisition brings more than 60 years of operating history, a circa 20-acre leasehold and established customer relationships. National Jets keeps its existing name, with continuity of service for current tenants, clients and staff, while Ocean Aviation begins phased redevelopment there, including a communal hangar, two private hangars, a terminal with executive offices and a fuel farm. The existing facility remains fully operational throughout the first phase.

Together, KTMB and KFLL form a dual-airport network aimed at ultra-high-net-worth individuals, corporate flight departments and international private aviation operators across the Miami-Fort Lauderdale area. KFLL ranks among the top 15 US general aviation airports by fuel volume and top 20 by total departures, with hangar capacity there projected to more than sixfold once redevelopment is complete.

“National Jets has built an outstanding reputation over more than six decades at Fort Lauderdale, and we are honored to carry that legacy forward,” says Romain Grosjean, chairman of Ocean Aviation. “Combined with our development at Miami Executive Airport, Ocean Aviation is developing two of the premier private aviation gateways in south Florida.”

“This acquisition reflects our conviction in the south Florida market,” adds David Chene, managing partner at Kennedy Lewis Investment Management. “We appreciate the opportunity to work alongside Miami-Dade and Broward counties to build lasting infrastructure in supply-constrained, high-growth markets.”

The groundbreaking ceremony, held at 3pm on 9 September, was attended by Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, County Commissioner Roberto J. Gonzalez, MDAD director and CEO Ralph Cutié, Ocean Aviation leadership and representatives of Lemartec and Kennedy Lewis.
