Hybrid-electric Ultra Short aircraft developer Electra has completed a multi-stop demonstration route connecting regional airports in Virginia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania to Philadelphia International Airport, working with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).

The flights, conducted under the FAA's eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP), ran between Manassas, Virginia, and Philadelphia, with stops at Washington Manassas Airport, Millville Executive Airport, Atlantic City Bader Field and Northeast Philadelphia Airport before reaching Philadelphia International. The route tested how smaller regional airfields could connect to a major airline hub using hybrid-electric aircraft.

FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford says: “The information collected from this demonstration will help us build a system that connects Americans in rural communities and larger metropolitan areas, creating more opportunities for jobs and essential services.”

The demonstration is one of a series being run under the eIPP, which the Department of Transportation established following the Unleashing Drone Dominance Executive Order. In March 2026 the department selected eight projects across 26 states to take part in the programme, with PennDOT among them. Bader Field in Atlantic City hosted NJDOT's first advanced air mobility demonstration in the state.

The FAA will use data from the flights to identify integration gaps and refine procedures for advanced air mobility aircraft entering the national airspace system. PennDOT and other eIPP participants are planning further test flights throughout the remainder of the year.
