Skyports Infrastructure and Linden Airport Services Corporation have signed a memorandum of understanding to redevelop and operationalise the Watson Island Heliport in Miami. The agreement will provide Miami with an immediate landing site for helicopters and a future hub for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
The collaboration aims to transform the historic site into one of the most advanced urban aviation facilities in the United States. The plan includes operator engagement, real estate partnerships and development of infrastructure to support advanced air mobility (AAM).
Watson Island has served as a key aviation hub since the early 20th century and is located minutes from Downtown Miami, Miami Beach and the Port of Miami. It offers a central location for residents, visitors and commercial operators.
Linden, which has managed the site for over 20 years, will work alongside Skyports to determine the heliport’s future use. The two companies bring experience from New York heliport operations and aim to restore Watson Island to prominence.
“Watson Island is an extraordinary asset for Miami and a pivotal location for the future of urban aviation,” says Robbie Ladov, general manager of US heliports and vertiports, Skyports Infrastructure.
Paul Dudley, CEO of Linden Airport Services Corporation, adds: “Partnering with Skyports enables us to advance the heliport into a modern skyport, engage key aviation and real estate partners and help establish Miami as a leader in advanced air mobility.”
