HeliOperations commits to sim for expanding AW139 roster
Two additional AW139s will take the UK operator’s fleet to six, coinciding with its plans to adopt a cost-effective new training device from Leonardo and Reiser.
Executives from Reiser, Leonardo and HeliOperations celebrate the signing of an MoU for the joint development of a Level 3 AW139 flight training device at European Rotors 2025.

HeliOperations has confirmed an order for two more Leonardo AW139 helicopters, with deliveries scheduled between 2026 and 2027. The purchase will bring its AW139 fleet to six.

The announcement came as Leonardo and Reiser Simulation and Training revealed they are jointly developing a new Level 3 flight training device (FTD) for the AW139, tailored for civil operators with small to mid-sized fleets. HeliOperations has signed a memorandum of understanding for one of the simulators.

The device will combine Leonardo’s OEM-level fidelity with Reiser’s simulation technology. It is designed to offer a cost-effective alternative to full-motion devices while maintaining high realism, allowing operators to deliver in-house training and improve safety.

“For Reiser, this partnership and the development of another helicopter training device together with Leonardo marks an important milestone in the collaboration and extends the product portfolio by one of the most relevant helicopter types in the world,” says Reiser CEO Dr Johannes Hain.

The Reiser-Leonardo collaboration aims to improve accessibility and safety in rotorcraft training by reducing investment costs without compromising operational standards.
