Volocopter will launch a European sandbox programme in 2026 to test its VoloCity and VoloXPro electric aircraft in near-commercial conditions. The trials will simulate point-to-point flights and help validate type certification, flight procedures and passenger experience. The VoloXPro’s trials will focus on urban and regional mobility use cases.
Long-standing partner ADAC Luftrettung will support selected missions to examine eVTOL use for emergency medical services, helping prepare for its own future pilot trials in various regions.
“This sandbox is the final stretch toward making electric air taxis and ultralight aircraft a reality in Europe,” says David Bausek, CTO at Volocopter. “Testing VoloCity and VoloXPro in real-world environments with trusted partners like ADAC Luftrettung ensures we're ready for commercial launch.”
ADAC Luftrettung’s CEO Frédéric Bruder adds: “eVTOL technology, especially Volocopter's products, could transform emergency response and regional coverage by enabling faster, quieter and more sustainable missions.”
Insights gained from the sandbox will feed into Volocopter’s planned rollout of VoloCity and VoloXPro services across European cities.
