On 4 September 2025, ASTM International published the final voting results approving Swift Fuels’ 100R unleaded avgas for an ASTM International production specification.
The approval was the result of several years of research and testing by Swift Fuels in partnership with the FAA, engine manufacturers including Lycoming, Continental Aerospace, Rotax, Textron Aviation and Piper, as well as laboratories and aviation part suppliers. ASTM voting committees represent hundreds of companies worldwide, including oil majors, fuel specialists and both military and civilian organisations.
This marked the third time in 11 years that Swift Fuels had successfully navigated the ASTM process to achieve an unleaded aviation gasoline specification.
Swift Fuels’ 100R is already in use at five flight schools in the US and five more in Europe, including Germany, Belgium, Austria and the Netherlands. The company expects to expand its availability globally in the weeks and months ahead.
Curt Castagna, president and CEO of NATA, says: “The approval of 100R for an ASTM International production specification represents another significant step in the transition to unleaded aviation fuel, while strengthening our industry's commitment to safety. NATA applauds the leadership and dedication of Swift Fuels and all who contributed to this milestone achievement.”
Swift Fuels remains the only US producer of unleaded avgas with FAA-approved certifications for both engines and airframes as well as ASTM-compliant fuel standards. The company has sold more than 4.5 million gallons of unleaded avgas to date, reinforcing the commercial readiness of its fuels.
