Charleston West Virginia International Yeager Airport (CRW) has broken ground on an $8.3 million general aviation apron expansion project. The airport hosted a ceremony on 1 July 2025 near its GA facilities on Eagle Mountain Road.
The expansion will add over 185,000 square feet of apron space to meet increased demand. It aims to improve efficiency and safety across the general aviation area, supporting corporate aircraft, military operations and Marshall University’s Bill Noe Flight School.
CRW’s airport director and CEO Dominique Ranieri says, “This expansion is an essential investment in our airport's future. It strengthens our ability to serve a wide range of users, from military units and emergency responders to general aviation and corporate travellers, while creating jobs and improving long-term safety.”
In addition to apron expansion, the work will involve updated signage, new pavement markings and a modern underground stormwater system that cuts peak flow rates by up to 75 per cent. Key FAA cables will also be relocated.
The FAA provided $7.7 million through AIP funds, including FY22 and FY23 discretionary support and CRW entitlement funds. West Virginia state departments contributed a further $484,000. The project supports 48 Landcore Builders workers and over 12,900 labour hours from nine subcontractors.
