Garmin has launched its G5000 Prime integrated flight deck, developed for Part 25 transport category aircraft. The touchscreen-based suite is designed to improve operational efficiency and safety, with flexible layouts and added display options that provide crews with more information in demanding airport environments.
The all-glass cockpit includes edge-to-edge, sunlight-readable and fingerprint-resistant displays. The primary display units use multi-core processors and gigabit connectivity to deliver fast performance, supporting refresh rates that improve animation and interaction. Quadrupled memory and more than double the previous processing power enable crisp, fluid visuals.
The secondary display units offer 40% more screen area than previous Garmin touch controllers, and handle system control, data entry and app display. The G5000 Prime interface supports ten simultaneous touch inputs, allowing both the pilot and copilot to interact with the same screen. On-screen hand stabilisation allows for more precise control.
“G5000 Prime includes deeper systems integration and advanced automation and connectivity features that will reduce crew workload and streamline workflow in the cockpit,” says Carl Wolf, Garmin vice president of aviation sales, marketing, programmes and support.
The flight management system includes tools such as Modified Flight Plan, giving side-by-side previews of proposed route changes. Pilots can also use the Window Manager to organise app placement and window sizes across the cockpit from a single SDU, with presets available for different flight phases.
Emergency automation is built into the system, including a selectable Emergency Return function that assists during critical moments after takeoff. Emergency Descent Mode and Garmin autothrottles also support crew workload reduction. The flight deck integrates AeroData's takeoff, landing and load planning software to streamline preflight steps.
Airport safety is bolstered through multiple Garmin terminal solutions. Runway Occupancy Awareness uses GPS and ADS-B to detect incursions and potential collisions. Taxiway Routing guides pilots on 2D and 3D maps, while ROAAS, SurfaceWatch and 3D SafeTaxi increase situational awareness.
G5000 Prime also includes extensive connectivity options. The GDL 60 enables diagnostic offloading and health data sharing with ground teams. Garmin’s Connext services allow global access to weather, voice calls, email and messaging. The suite supports FAA Data Comm, Link 2000+ CPDLC, FANS 1/A+, ACARS and PBN.
With more than 30,000 Garmin flight decks already in service, G5000 Prime builds on established architecture and brings modular LRU design for simplified maintenance. Aircraft types delivering with G5000 Prime will be confirmed by manufacturers.
