Gogo and MAG push ESA through tough in-flight trials
Trials near Titusville verified broadband reliability for complex operations and streaming apps during conditions simulating high-demand missions.
The Plane Simple ESA terminal, mounted atop the Cessna Caravan, delivered stable broadband throughout flight trials.

Gogo has completed a successful flight test programme of its Plane Simple Electronically Steered Antenna (ESA) with MAG Aerospace. The tests were carried out on a Cessna Caravan using MAG’s certified Universal Adapter Plate.

Testing included standard and complex manoeuvres such as figure-of-eights, hard banks and racetrack patterns. Abrupt power loss and muting were simulated, and the system reconnected automatically without engineer input.

The ESA maintained high-quality broadband throughout, supporting streaming, video calls and VPN access for multiple users. The system is being developed with Gilat Satellite Networks to support OneWeb satellite connectivity for VVIP, head-of-state and special mission operations.

Chris Moore, CEO of Gogo, says: “The system performed flawlessly throughout the test programme and did not require remedial intervention at any point, highlighting the capability of this multi-purpose antenna.”

The antenna is part of Gogo’s Plane Simple series and is compatible with various radome types. It is being developed for platforms ranging from ISR turboprops to executive airliners. Pre-production hardware is in development for FAA certification, with production units expected in 2025.
