De Havilland Canada has chosen Universal Avionics’ InSight display system to upgrade the flight decks of Dash 8 series 100 and 200 aircraft. Developed with partners Universal Avionics and JANA Inc., the modernised suite includes five LCD displays with synthetic vision, digital engine indication and touchscreen controllers, replacing older CRT equipment to improve situational awareness and reduce aircraft weight.
Widerøe’s Flyveselskap AS will be the launch customer for the upgrade, allowing its Dash 8 fleet to continue operating into the next decade. Certification of the avionics suite is expected in the first half of 2026.
The upgraded system will offer connected solutions including real-time data reporting, automated database delivery and proactive analytics to support flight operations. It also enables precision navigation down to RNP AR 0.1 and includes enhanced terrain awareness warning systems.
Jean-Philippe Côté, vice president of programmes and business improvement at De Havilland Canada, says: “Partnering with Universal Avionics to upgrade our Dash 8 100 and 200 aircraft reinforces De Havilland Canada's commitment to investing in the fleet and delivering modernised and reliable solutions to our customers. The new avionics provides a good solution to replace components difficult to replace and repair.”
Universal Avionics CEO Dror Yahav adds: “The selection of InSight for yet another aircraft platform and within the airline market highlights the versatility of the system. The growing adoption of this modernised flight deck across more than 10 unique platforms signifies its success as an industry standard for today's flight operations and builds on our collaboration with other exciting De Havilland programmes.”
