Mexican ultra-low-cost airline Viva has selected the Tecnam P2006T NG twin-engine aircraft as part of its new pilot academy, along with six single-engine P2010TDI models, secured for delivery in 2025. The airline has also placed options for two further twin-engine Tecnam aircraft and 12 additional single-engine Tecnam aircraft.
The P2006T NG will be used for advanced commercial pilot training, including multi-engine (MEP), instrument rating (IR) and commercial pilot licence (CPL) courses. The academy will initially train two groups of 25 students per year, expanding over time to support the airline’s growing need for pilots.
Viva’s decision to launch its own pilot academy ensures cadets receive comprehensive training from the airline. The first aircraft will arrive in early 2025, strengthening the company’s existing pilot cadet programme.
“Viva is committed to shaping the future of aviation by investing in world-class training and sustainable innovation. Partnering with Tecnam allows us to equip our Viva pilot academy with seven safe, efficient and eco-friendly aircraft. This collaboration represents a significant step in preparing the next generation of pilots to meet the evolving demands of the aviation industry," says Mayela Flores, technical training director officer at Viva.
Tecnam chief sales officer Walter Da Costa adds: “We are particularly proud of this partnership with Viva, as it demonstrates that our ideas for the future of aviation training are a win-win for everyone: flight schools, students, the environment and aviation in general.”
