47G Utah Aerospace & Defense (47G) and Beta Technologies have signed an agreement to introduce electric aircraft and charging stations across Utah. The initiative aims to position the state as a leader in advanced air mobility (AAM) while enhancing transportation networks in anticipation of the 2034 Winter Olympics. Letters of support have been provided by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) and the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity (GOEO).
The partnership will establish a statewide electric charging network for both aircraft and ground-based vehicles, create pilot training programmes and develop a flight operations model. It will also include flight demonstrations to educate the public on the benefits of AAM.
"Utah is at the epicentre of cutting-edge innovations in the commercial aviation industry that will play a critical role in Utah's economic future. Utah is not just embracing the future of transportation; we are leading it," says the state's Governor Spencer Cox. "We are working to implement an advanced air mobility strategy that provides Utahns more transportation choices, improves air quality through the use of clean energy technologies and enhances access to jobs, education and recreational opportunities."
The agreement is part of 47G Project Alta, a public-private initiative developing air logistics, cargo transport and air taxi services across the state. Beta Technologies, known for its all-electric Alia aircraft, has developed the Charge Cube technology that will support charging for both air and ground vehicles.
Industry analysts project the AAM market to reach $1.5 trillion by 2040, with Utah expecting to generate 11,000 new jobs, $8 billion in business activity and $1.8 billion in tax revenues by 2045.
