CO2 calculator brings speed to IBAC offset programme
IBAC and CTX have added a link to Conklin & de Decker's CO2 calculator as part of their carbon exchange offset programme. It quickly determines an aircraft's emissions and associated offsets.

The International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) and its carbon offsetting partner Carbon Trade eXchange (CTX) have made the Conklin & de Decker CO2 Calculator available on their websites, to help business aircraft operators quickly determine their carbon emissions for offsetting needs.

The CO2 Calculator is a convenient tool that includes hundreds of specific business aviation aircraft makes and models, both rotary and fixed wing, and determines that aircraft's emissions in metric tonnes, as well as associated offsets to purchase in USD on a per hour, per trip, per seat or per year basis. The calculation is based on the aircraft's fuel burn, average trip length and estimated yearly flight hours, and allows for pre-populated editing.

Once emissions are tallied for a specific aircraft, operators ready to participate in the IBAC Carbon Credit Exchange (IBAC EX) programme can voluntarily purchase offsets for those carbon emissions by enrolling with CTX eXchange. Unique from other programmes, CTX offers certified carbon credits in real-time, allowing organisations to choose from hundreds of offset projects that align with their corporate values and sustainability strategy, and ensures that 95 per cent of funds collected go towards active, approved projects and therefore meaningful emissions reductions.

“As more operators are implementing sustainability programmes that could well include an element of offsetting, we felt it was important to provide easy access to this exceptional tool that makes it so easy to calculate emissions and determine how many tonnes of CO2 to voluntarily offset,” says IBAC environment director Bruce Parry. “We thank Conklin & de Decker for sharing its application with us, and we are excited to offer free and convenient access to it from the CTX and IBAC websites.”

IBAC director general Kurt Edwards adds: “In addition to expanding use of sustainable aviation fuels, carbon offsetting is also an important measure available now to help us achieve carbon-neutral growth and provides a means to meet our industry goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Through our strategic partnership with CTX, and now with access to the Conklin & de Decker CO2 Calculator, we are eager to provide a seamless and transparent process for global business aircraft operators to implement carbon offsetting.”
