Colibri reports increase in UK spending on jet purchases
There's a roaring trade in pre-owned aircraft within the British Isles, despite the negative narrative surrounding arrangements for Brexit. Colibri Aircraft reports on the figures.

According to analysis by London based Colibri Aircraft, a specialist in the marketing, resale and purchase of pre-owned private aircraft, the UK's business aircraft market is performing well despite concerns about Brexit and shrinking economic growth.

Its analysis of Amstat data from February 2019 reveals that 17 pre-owned heavy, medium and light private jets were purchased in the UK in 2018, for a total value of $143.6m. This works out at around $8.446m per jet. The corresponding figures for 2017 are 11 pre-owned private jets, $78.6m and $7.144m.

In addition to this, 13 new private jets were delivered to the UK last year for a combined value of $299.5m, compared to 15 and $256.9m in 2017.

Colibri Aircraft's analysis of WingX data from March 2019 also reveals that there were 7,812 business aircraft departures from the UK in February, and in the 12 months to February the number of departures increased by 0.7 per cent when compared to the previous 12 month period.

Managing director Oliver Stone says: “There has been some negative narrative around Brexit and its potential impact on the UK's aviation sector, but our research reveals it has had no effect on the number of business aircraft purchased by residents of the UK or on the number of business aircraft flights.”
