Embraer bringing safety and operational benefits of Rockwell Collins HGS, EVS to Legacy 450/500

Rockwell Collins today announced that Embraer Executive Jets has selected Rockwell Collins' HGS™-3500 and new multi-spectral EVS-3000 enhanced vision system as options on its mid-light Legacy 450 and mid-size Legacy 500 aircraft.

The HGS-3500, an innovative, all-in-one head-up solution, easily conforms to the flight deck's structure and improves access to airports during low-visibility conditions. It comes standard with synthetic vision for greater situational awareness and optional enhanced vision, enabled by Rockwell Collins' new EVS-3000. The EVS utilizes the first multi-spectral infrared sensor system for commercial aircraft for high-fidelity detection, including ground-based LED lights.

“The safety and operational benefits that HGS brings, especially when you incorporate high-resolution, reliable synthetic and enhanced vision systems, are immense for aircraft like the Legacy 450/500 that tend to fly into more remote areas,” said Craig Olson, senior director, head-up guidance systems for Rockwell Collins. “We look forward to working with Embraer to deliver the breakthrough capabilities of our HGS and EVS to a brand new market segment.”

“The advanced technologies developed by Rockwell Collins in the HGS-3500 and the EVS-3000 will bring features and capabilities never before experienced in the mid-light and mid-size segments,” said Luciano Castro, vice president programs, Embraer Executive Jets. “The compact HGS and EVS solution is fully integrated with Pro Line Fusion, and is offered to our customers as the Embraer Enhanced Vision System - E2VS, supporting our commitment to deliver truly innovative products.”

A 2009 Flight Safety Foundation study concluded that HGS technology would have positively influenced the outcome of hundreds of accidents over a 12-year period. The study found that 38 percent of all accidents were likely or highly likely to have been prevented if the pilot had a HGS. The study also came to the conclusion that a staggering 69 percent of landing and takeoff accidents and 57 percent of loss of control could have been avoided if the pilot had access to the information available on a HGS. With more than 5,100 HGS delivered to date, Rockwell Collins leads the aviation head-up display market segment. The company's HGS is operated every day by hundreds of corporate, airline and military transport aircraft operators around the world.
