Gulfstream says it is the first OEM to offer an FAA-certified, guided-missile countermeasure system that is designed to protect the passengers and crew of its business jets from attack by an infrared-guided missile. The system is available only from Gulfstream for installation on new or in-service aircraft.

The MATADOR Infrared Countermeasure system is manufactured by BAE Systems and has been installed on aircraft ranging in size from commercial airliners to business jets. Gulfstream is the only OEM to hold a Supplemental Type Certificate for the system.

The system protects against Band I, II and II IR missile threats by emitting pulsed radiation from a transmitter unit in the tail cone of the aircraft. MATADOR can be installed during completion or during scheduled maintenance.
