Cessna has selected the AirCell Axxess satcom system as a factory option on its Citation X, Sovereign and XLS business jets. The multi-channel, wireless system is designed for medium-to-large aircraft.

The standard option includes two Iridium satellite communications channels for quality voice and narrowband data services. Expansion ports allow a further two ports to be added, as well as a plug-and-play broadband connection operated through the ethernet port.

Handsets include large colour displays, advanced noise cancelling technology and ear/bud headset jacks for clear, quiet calling.

Axxess' wireless capabilities include a full 802.11b/g Wi-Fi 'hotspot' which, when paired with a broadband connection, can be used to allow personal laptops, PDAs and other devices in the cabin access to internet services. AirCell launched the system at the end of last year.
