World Fuel has been appointed as an aviation fuel supplier at Avalon airport in Melbourne, Australia, adding a new fuel supply source for domestic and international airlines, air freight operators, and business aviation customers.
World Fuel will supply aviation fuel into the Avalon fuel system alongside the existing supplier through a ‘commingled’ fuel model, giving airlines and cargo operators additional supplier choice, strengthening supply resilience and leveraging World Fuel's broader international aviation network. Alongside Air BP, the commingled model means both suppliers' product is blended in the shared hydrant system and operators draw from a single point regardless of which company they have contracted with.
“Adding World Fuel as a supply source gives operators at Avalon greater supplier choice while strengthening the airport's fuel supply resilience,” says Mike Ranger, senior vice president, World Fuel. “Combined with World Fuel's international aviation network, the agreement positions us to support Avalon's continued growth, particularly among carriers serving Asia, the Middle East and global freight markets.”
“We are delighted to welcome World Fuel as a fuel supplier at Avalon airport,” adds Ari Suss, chief executive officer, Avalon airport, Melbourne. “Adding an established global supplier strengthens our fuel supply chain and provides greater choice for our freight and airline customers. We see significant opportunities to attract additional international services and freight activity through partnerships such as this.”
The arrangement will support a broad range of aircraft operations at Avalon, including international and domestic airlines, charter operations, business aviation, military activity and dedicated freighter aircraft.
Avalon Airport Australia is a subsidiary of Linfox, which owns the airport's operating rights. The land itself is owned by the Department of Defence. The airport handled roughly 900,000 passengers in 2023 and has a stated ambition to serve 15 million a year by 2040.
