CitationJet joins CJ1 and CJ2 in Garmin upgrade programme
The retrofit brings synthetic vision, coupled VNAV and Emergency Descent Mode to the light jet’s original airframes.
Two G600 TXi touchscreen displays replace the legacy flight instruments in the all-glass cockpit.

Garmin has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) supplemental type certification (STC) for the original Cessna CitationJet, serial numbers 525-0001 through 0359, establishing an all-Garmin integrated solution for the light jet.

Building on similar upgrades for the Cessna Citation CJ1 and Citation CJ2, the certification enables a comprehensive flight deck modernisation that replaces the legacy systems. The retrofit includes TXi flight displays, GTN Xi navigators and the GFC 600 digital autopilot, along with several optional upgrades, and is designed to reduce pilot workload and add safety-enhancing technologies.

The all-glass cockpit features two G600 TXi flight displays providing primary flight display (PFD) and multi-function display (MFD) capabilities with a touchscreen interface. Primary flight data is displayed with a wide horizon view on Garmin synthetic vision technology (SVT) for IFR, marginal VFR or night-time conditions. A GI 275 standby flight instrument is fitted on the pilot side, with an option for an additional instrument on the copilot side. The pilot-side PFD and GI 275 remain available while operating on the aircraft’s emergency electrical bus.

Features specific to the CitationJet include stabilised approach monitoring and aural V-speed alerting during take-off. Aural annunciations such as “speed”, “course”, “glidepath” and “sink rate” notify the pilot if the aircraft is exceeding predetermined speed, course or vertical descent rates. The TXi engine indication system (EIS) replaces the legacy EIS, with N1 reference bugs computed automatically and integrated timers for engine start.

Working with the GTN Xi navigators, the GFC 600 autopilot enables coupled VNAV descents and coupled go-around capability during a missed approach. In the event of a loss of cabin pressurisation, Emergency Descent Mode (EDM) can automatically descend the aircraft to a preset altitude without pilot intervention. FAA Data Comm allows pilots to receive departure clearances at over 60 airports, as well as enroute clearances and frequency changes above 16,000ft in the United States.

Optional upgrades include the GWX 8000 StormOptix weather radar, the GDL 60 datalink for the PlaneSync connected aircraft management system, the GMA 35C audio panel and the GTX 345R transponder with ADS-B Out and In capability.

The full retrofit solution for the Cessna Citation CJ, CJ1 and CJ2 is available through the Garmin authorised dealer network.
