FAA approval clears ASU’s panoramic night vision system for civil aviation
The lightweight E3 PANO combines a wider field of view with reduced pilot-carried weight for specialised night-time operations.
The E3 PANO was developed for operators who depend on night vision in challenging environments

Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU) has received FAA Technical Standard Order (TSO)-C164c approval for its Lightweight E3 Panoramic Night Vision Goggle (E3 PANO) system.

The approval confirms that the E3 PANO meets the performance, quality and airworthiness requirements established for approved civil aviation applications and enables the system to be integrated into approved aircraft configurations through applicable installation and operational approval processes.

The Lightweight E3 PANO was engineered around a fundamental operational need: giving pilots a broader view of their environment while maintaining the comfort and performance required for demanding missions. Unlike traditional night vision systems with a more limited field of view, panoramic night vision expands peripheral awareness, helping crews maintain a greater understanding of their surroundings during low-light and night-time operations.

At the same time, the Lightweight E3 is designed to reduce the weight carried by the pilot. This combination of expanded visual awareness and lightweight design can help reduce fatigue during extended or mission-critical flights.

ASU vice president of sales and marketing Dan Meyer says: “Receiving FAA TSO-C164c approval for the Lightweight E3 PANO represents a major achievement for our engineering and certification teams. The E3 PANO was developed for operators who depend on night vision in challenging environments and is engineered for specialised missions including public safety, air medical operations, utility aviation, law enforcement and search and rescue, as well as other specialised civil aviation operations.

By combining panoramic viewing capability with a lightweight configuration, the E3 PANO is designed to provide enhanced situational awareness during critical phases of flight, including take off, landing, obstacle avoidance, search and rescue and tactical operations. Its wider field of view provides crews with more information about the environment around the aircraft, supporting faster recognition of obstacles, terrain, aircraft and other visual cues.

The Lightweight E3 PANO is available now to qualified operators and aviation programmes.
