London Biggin Hill Airport has moved its Runway 03 Instrument Approach procedure into the full trial phase after authorisation from the UK Civil Aviation Authority, allowing suitably equipped aircraft and operators to begin using the satellite-based arrival.
The approach is designed to improve predictability during arrivals while strengthening operational resilience across the airport. It also allows aircraft to operate in a broader range of weather conditions, supporting more reliable access for business and private aviation traffic flying into London.
Robert Walters, commercial director at London Biggin Hill Airport, says: “The final stage of the Runway 03 approach trial marks another important step in strengthening the airport’s operational capability. Alongside our recent wider airfield investments, the procedure gives operators greater flexibility and confidence when planning flights into London Biggin Hill Airport. Together, these upgrades reinforce our commitment to delivering safe, reliable and efficient operations for our customers.”
The development forms part of a wider programme of infrastructure investment at the airport, including runway resurfacing works, upgraded LED and centreline lighting, enhanced Instrument Runway Visual Range technology and the rollout of a 24-hour AUTO-METAR weather reporting service.
