EDF Group has increased its investment in Aura Aero to two million euros, one year after first investing. The investment underlines EDF’s ambition to back low‑carbon regional aircraft development and help structure a regional light‑aircraft industry in France.
EDF’s support encompasses technical and energy‑system contributions. The group will apply its battery and charging expertise plus assist with integrating electrical infrastructure into airport platforms. EDF’s R&D and engineering teams will work on battery testing and deployment of charging infrastructure intended for electric aviation with a view to standardisation and European‑wide interoperability.
Aura Aero is also progressing with its Integral line of two-seater training aircraft. Deliveries of the Integral R have begun, Integral S is approaching certification and the all-electric Integral E is currently undergoing flight testing after its December 2024 maiden flight.
Beyond funding, EDF is providing R&D and engineering support for battery testing and charging infrastructure development aimed at European standardisation.
EDF Group executive director Marc Benayoun says: “This investment marks a new step in our commitment towards the electrification of mobilities. By supporting Aura Aero, EDF Group is helping to develop a low-carbon aerospace industry in France and Europe.”
Aura Aero co-founder Jérémy Caussade adds: “EDF's expertise in energy decarbonisation is a major asset to accelerate our industrial development and promote the emergence of clean aviation in Europe.”
