Viasat expands JetXP service with Telesat Lightspeed LEO capability
The integration of Telesat Lightspeed low earth orbit satellites into JetXP strengthens Viasat’s multi-orbit network and enhances connectivity and global coverage for business aviation.
James MacDougall (Viasat), Philippe Schleret (Telesat) and Claudio D'Amico (Viasat) at the JetXP multi-orbit collaboration announcement.

Viasat has improved its business aviation multi-orbit strategy by incorporating Telesat Lightspeed low earth orbit (LEO) satellite capacity into its JetXP in-flight broadband service. This integration combines Viasat’s high-capacity Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) capabilities, including Viasat-3, with the flexibility of LEO networks to enhance redundancy, coverage and reliability for business aviation customers.

JetXP dynamically routes data between GEO and LEO in real time, optimising connectivity for latency-sensitive applications such as cloud collaboration, HD video conferencing and gaming.

The multi-orbit offering will be made available as part of selected JetXP plans, without requiring multiple subscriptions. A new flat-panel electronically steered antenna (ESA) will be needed, designed to work alongside JetXP’s existing tail-mount antennas with fewer line replaceable units for easier installation.

Don Buchman, aviation president at Viasat, says: “We're proud that Viasat has successfully pioneered some of business aviation's greatest in-flight connectivity innovations over the past 35 years, all with a focus on delivering the very best experience possible to stay ahead of evolving customer needs.”

Viasat’s forthcoming iQe monitoring system, purpose-built for business aviation, will use AI and analytics to generate a single Quality of Experience (QoE) score across network metrics in real time. A 2027 launch is expected.
