EHang has completed a landmark series of pilotless air taxi flights using its EH216-S eVTOL aircraft in Doha, Qatar. These point-to-point, human-carrying flights took place between the Port of Doha and Katara Cultural Village, representing the first urban flights of a pilotless eVTOL in the Middle East.
The test campaign was carried out in partnership with Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and supported by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority. It demonstrated the potential for using eVTOL aircraft in urban environments and served as proof of concept for intermodal connectivity, linking maritime and aerial routes. A 30-minute car journey was reduced to an eight-minute flight.
The campaign aims to guide future infrastructure and regulatory development in Qatar and beyond. Qatar’s Minister of Transport HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani says the trial was “a new milestone in the State of Qatar's journey of adopting smart and sustainable mobility solutions.”
Victoria Jing Xiang, COO for Europe and Latin America at EHang, says: “Together, we are building a safe, intelligent and efficient regional AAM ecosystem.”
The pilotless air taxi project will be rolled out in phases with a focus on safety, regulations and integration with Qatar’s wider transport network.
