Machjet International has officially opened its new multi-million-dollar hangar at Sunshine Coast Airport, marking a significant milestone for Queensland aviation and the company’s continued expansion.
The event drew guests from across the aviation industry, government and the local community. Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli cut the ceremonial ribbon alongside Machjet managing director Simon McDermott and director John McDermott.
Static aircraft displays from Bombardier, Cessna, Dassault and Machjet’s own fleet, including the rare Transall C160, filled the apron, while a sunset aerobatic display saw Machjet pilot Emma McDonald perform alongside the Sea Fury.
“This new facility marks a significant investment in the Australian aviation industry,” says Machjet managing director Simon McDermott. “It reflects our ongoing commitment to strengthening regional connectivity, supporting skilled aviation jobs and enhancing the standards of premium air charter operations across the country.
“This hangar was designed to serve multiple purposes, from housing long-range executive jets to supporting critical operations like aeromedical retrievals and urgent cargo transfers,” he adds.
Hangar 26, capable of accommodating up to four Global Express aircraft or six Challenger 605s, also includes crew facilities, extensive apron space and a premium executive lounge due to open later this year.
The hangar’s versatility will soon be on display again when it hosts the SunnyKids Mayoral Ball on 25 October 2025, transforming part of the facility into a luxury venue for 1,000 guests.
“The Mayoral Ball will be a fitting continuation of what we started this weekend,” says McDermott. “It’s an opportunity to show how this facility can contribute not only to aviation, but to the broader Sunshine Coast community.”
The opening of Hangar 26 further strengthens the Sunshine Coast’s reputation as a hub for premium aviation services in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
