Airmedic doubles repatriation capacity with second Learjet 45XR
The Quebec air medical transport provider has invested nearly $7 million the 45XR, building on last year’s $8 million purchase and expanding its international programme.
The aircraft will undergo avionics upgrades and a full medical cabin reconfiguration.

Airmedic has acquired a second Bombardier Learjet 45XR to support its international repatriation operation. The nearly $7 million investment follows the $8 million committed in 2024 for its first Learjet, bringing the total spend to $15 million in less than two years.

With the first Learjet integrated in 2024, Airmedic established a base of operations at Montréal Trudeau International Airport to support global missions. The second aircraft will enter service by the end of 2025 following avionics upgrades and a full medical cabin reconfiguration. It will double repatriation capacity and help meet growing demand while also generating more than a dozen specialised jobs in Quebec.

“This investment marks a pivotal milestone for Airmedic. With this second Learjet, we are extending the reach of Quebec’s expertise in international medical transport. For our patients and their families, it means faster, safer and more compassionate repatriation. It also demonstrates our strong commitment to our mission: ensuring continuity of high-quality care, both in Canada and abroad,” says Louis-Philippe Loiselle Fortier, vice president, strategic initiatives and business development at Airmedic.

Since 2024, Airmedic has carried out a wide range of international missions, from complex patient transfers to critical interventions requiring high-level coordination. The fleet, which also includes six Pilatus PC-12 NG aircraft and five Airbus helicopters, will gain added flexibility, resilience and the capacity to respond to multiple urgent cases simultaneously with this second Learjet.

Fortier continues: “We selected the Learjet 45XR after a detailed evaluation of available aircraft and were very satisfied with the efficiency of our first model, introduced in 2024. The Learjet 45XR offers an excellent balance between range, performance, and cost-efficiency. Its capabilities allow us to perform long-distance repatriations between the Americas and into Europe, giving our clients faster and more affordable transfers. Its speed, cabin versatility, and reliability make it particularly well-suited for medical aviation, where time and specialised care are critical. Beyond its performance, we are especially proud to continue flying a Bombardier model. As a Québec-based operator, it is important for us to partner with a homegrown manufacturer that has built a global reputation for excellence.”

“Since integrating our first Learjet in 2024, we have established a strategic base of operations at Montréal–Trudeau International airport to support global missions. This expansion has already generated tangible economic benefits, including the creation of more than a dozen specialised jobs since the summer of 2024. We also continue to uphold the highest international standards of quality and safety, confirmed by our Accreditation Canada QMENTUM designation. So far, 2025 has been a strong year, marked by sustained investments in fleet modernisation and innovation.”
