Textron Aviation has advanced its Cessna Citation Ascend business jet programme with the rollout of the first production unit from its manufacturing facility in Wichita, Kansas. The aircraft is expected to achieve FAA certification later this year.

Employees held a special celebration to recognise their role in designing and delivering the newest Citation business jet in the 560XL series. “Today is a big celebration and thank you to everyone who has been a part of building up to this point. It is your craftsmanship that continues to make milestones like this possible,” said Todd McKee, senior vice president, integrated supply chain. “By infusing new technology and bringing new features to the market, we continue to drive the future for us to build these legendary aircraft.”

The Citation Ascend builds on the reputation of the 560XL series, which has delivered more than 1,000 aircraft over 25 years. Owners and operators choose the series for its combination of performance, comfort, operational ease, mission flexibility and efficiency.

Designed based on customer feedback, the Ascend offers features for ultimate performance and comfort. The cabin includes a flat floor for generous legroom and flexibility, standard seating for nine passengers, 19 USB charging ports and three universal outlets, ensuring access to power throughout the aircraft for crew and passengers.

The aircraft is powered by Pratt & Whitney Canada PW545D engines, designed to deliver fuel efficiency and increased thrust, and its Garmin G5000 avionics feature the latest software and hardware, including autothrottle technology. The Ascend also features a Honeywell RE100 [XL] auxiliary power unit approved for unattended operations.
