Annecy Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc Airport, operated by Vinci Airports, has introduced sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and a dedicated electric charging station for aircraft, following a fuel supply agreement with TotalEnergies. A 44 kW electric recharging point has also been brought into service.
The fuel station was inaugurated with local and regional representatives in attendance. It includes a semi-underground tank that enables the distribution of aviation fuel blended with up to 35 per cent SAF made from used cooking oil and other waste-based materials. The SAF is produced in Europe by TotalEnergies and meets the environmental targets set by Vinci Airports and the Haute-Savoie department.
This action follows Vinci Airports’ 2022 commitment to support decarbonisation at Annecy and throughout its airport network. SAF is already available at seven other Vinci Airports in France.
“Vinci Airports has pioneered in offering biofuels from as early as 2021 within its network of airports in France. With Annecy airport, four of our airports [Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne, Toulon Hyères, Saint-Nazaire Montoir] now offer it, which we are delighted to be able to do. The installation of an electric charging station aims to support the deployment of electric aircraft fleets, a demonstration of which was given as part of the Electric Tour, organized by Vinci Airports and the Fédération Française Aéronautique in May 2024,” says Valérie Vesque-Jeancard, managing director of Vinci Airports for France.
“The Conseil départemental de la Haute-Savoie is actively committed to more sustainable aviation, with the aim of ensuring the long-term future of Annecy Haute-Savoie Mont-Blanc airport, which is owned by the département. The project also aims to improve the quality of the welcome and services offered at the site. We support all forms of mobility to enhance the accessibility of our region, for the benefit of all the people of Haute-Savoie,” declares Martial Saddier, president of the Haute-Savoie Departmental Council.
