Sky Harbour Group Corporation, an aviation infrastructure company developing the first US network of home-basing campuses for business aircraft, has signed a ground lease agreement with the Port of Portland for the construction of a new home base hangar campus at Hillsboro Airport (HIO), serving Portland and the City of Hillsboro, Oregon.
The planned campus will be developed in two phases on approximately 13 acres and will include hangar space for business aircraft of all sizes, adjacent office space, critical operational infrastructure, and significant ramp and automobile parking. Hillsboro becomes the company’s 18th host airport, expanding Sky Harbour’s growing footprint across the US.
The Hillsboro development is expected to create or sustain hundreds of local jobs and generate significant economic benefits for the greater Portland region and Washington County. According to Sky Harbour, the campus will offer “the best home base in business aviation” to house Oregon’s top corporate and privately-owned business jets in state-of-the art hangars, with line services dedicated exclusively to based tenants, offering “the shortest time to wheels-up in business aviation”.
Tal Keinan, Sky Harbour's chairman and chief executive officer, comments: “We are eager to fulfil our commitment to modernisation and service to the Hillsboro Airport, to the Portland business aviation community and to the citizens of Washington County. The Sky Harbour campus will be another best-in-class facility with outstanding operational leadership driving uncompromising standards for business aviation safety and efficiency.”
“We're excited to welcome Sky Harbour to the Portland metro area,” adds Chris Czarnecki, director of aviation business and properties at the Port of Portland. “This agreement underscores Hillsboro Airport's status as an important hub for business aviation which brings investment, jobs and revenue directly into Hillsboro and communities throughout our region.”
The Hillsboro site adds to Sky Harbour’s existing and planned campuses, which include operational locations at Houston Sugar Land (SGR), Nashville (BNA), Miami Opa-Locka (OPF), San Jose Mineta (SJC), Camarillo (CMA), King County International – Boeing Field (BFI), Phoenix Deer Valley (DVT) and Dallas Addison (ADS). Additional campuses are under development at Denver Centennial (APA), Chicago Executive (PWK), Bradley International (BDL), Hudson Valley Regional (POU), Orlando Executive (ORL), Dulles (IAD), Stewart (SWF), Salt Lake City (SLC), and Trenton-Mercer (TTN), with more sites expected to be announced.
