Since January 2023, Swiss Helicopter AG has operated all passenger flights with full CO2-compensation using a biochar fertiliser produced largely in Switzerland. This material captures and stores carbon from the atmosphere over the long term and supports the company’s strategy for reducing emissions in the aviation sector.
From 1 April 2025, all training flights carried out by the company’s flight school will also be CO2-compensated. This includes both initial and advanced training for future and licensed pilots, as well as charter flights operated by private pilots.
Pilot training and check flights have already been fully compensated over the past two years, contributing significantly to the more than 1,400 tonnes of CO2 removed from the atmosphere since the strategy began. With this latest step, Swiss Helicopter expects to almost double the total amount of CO2 offset. The necessary offset certificates have been secured in advance from its Swiss-based supplier.
