Institute presents safety award to Avidyne’s Schwinn
Avidyne CEO Dan Schwinn was recognised for his work advancing avionics and safety during a ceremony in Arlington, Virginia.
Schwinn received the Richard G. McSpadden General Aviation Safety Award on 19 March at the Hoover Awards.

AOPA’s Air Safety Institute has presented Avidyne CEO Dan Schwinn with the Richard G. McSpadden General Aviation Safety Award. The honour was given during the Robert 'Bob' Hoover Awards Ceremony at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on 19 March 2025.

Schwinn was recognised for his role in improving cockpit technology and increasing safety in general aviation. He is credited with helping introduce glass panel avionics and developing systems that enhance real-time situational awareness.

“Dan's leadership and dedication to advancing cockpit technology has had a lasting impact on general aviation,” said AOPA Air Safety Institute senior vice president Mike Ginter. “From introducing glass panel avionics to enhancing real-time situational awareness, there is no question Dan's contributions have made flying safer. We are proud to recognise his achievements with the Richard G. McSpadden General Aviation Safety Award.”

“Improving safety and ease of use is at the core of everything we do at Avidyne and I am honoured to be recognised with this prestigious award from the AOPA Air Safety Institute,” added Schwinn.
