Maldivian marks one year of air ambulance services
The service completed 787 medical evacuation flights in its first year, enhancing healthcare accessibility across the Maldives.

Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, is celebrating the first anniversary of its air ambulance services. A special event was held at Velana International Airport to mark the milestone, featuring Maldivian’s converted DHC-8-200 air ambulance aircraft. In attendance were prominent cabinet members, including Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Captain Mohamed Ameen and Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, along with senior management from Maldivian and representatives from key organisations involved in the operation.

Since its launch, 787 medical evacuation flights have been completed, transporting 931 medevac passengers. The service is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Health, Emergency Medical Services, the National Social Protection Agency and Asandha Company Limited.

The milestone reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility and emergency response capabilities across the Maldives. The air ambulance service has been pivotal in providing essential medical transport and support, ensuring timely and effective care for patients. Operating 24/7, the service utilises specialised aircraft equipped with advanced medical facilities for swift and safe patient transport.
