Meridian opts for Bell training device by Entrol
A state-of-the-art Bell 429 Level 5 flight simulator will be the start of the North Queensland Aviation Centre of Excellence with the delivery of first-class rotary wing flight training, delivered by Meridian Helicopters.
This is the second Entrol installation in Australia.

Meridian Helicopters, a rotary aerial work operator based in Townsville, Australia, has chosen to invest in a Bell 429 Level 5 simulator manufactured by entrol. Scheduled for installation in summer 2025, the simulator represents entrol's commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions for pilot training.

The Bell 429 FTD Level 5 simulator combines advanced features to support Meridian Helicopters' training objectives. Key highlights include: realistic cockpit design – the simulator is equipped with real Garmin GTN 650 and GTN 750 avionics, ensuring authenticity in navigation and communication training; cylindrical visual system – with a 200x40 degree field of view, this system delivers unparalleled clarity and situational awareness for pilots; and advanced options – features such as a Forward-Looking Infrared Camera (FLIR) and vibration systems simulate real-world flight conditions, enabling pilots to practise complex scenarios in a controlled environment.

Geoff Keir, chief executive officer of Meridian Helicopters, states: “With these exciting times ahead we are looking forward to the installation of our entrol FTD at our head office in Townsville, north Queensland. This state-of-the-art flight simulator will be the start of the North Queensland Aviation Centre of Excellence with the delivery of first-class rotary wing flight training. We look forward to working alongside the entrol team as we expand further with multiple airframe types in 2025 and beyond.”

Claudia Calleja, business manager at entrol, adds: “This sale is a testament to entrol's dedication to providing high-quality training solutions tailored to the needs of operators like Meridian Helicopters. With this simulator, we continue to strengthen our presence in the Asia-Pacific region while supporting the development of highly skilled pilots.”

This Bell 429 FTD Level 5 simulator will be entrol's second installation in Australia, further solidifying the company's position as a trusted provider of flight simulators in the region. Its deployment in Townsville will play a key role in enhancing the training programmes offered by Meridian Helicopters, ensuring pilots are well-prepared for real-world challenges.
