Flexjet has submitted its declaration of compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding the new 14CFR Part 5 safety management system (SMS) regulations. The declaration confirms that the company meets the FAA’s requirements for SMS, placing Flexjet among the top 1% of private jet providers in adherence to the FAA’s SMS programme.
This follows Flexjet’s initial active conformance with the FAA’s SMS Voluntary Program (SMSVP) in October 2021. Since then, the company has significantly enhanced its SMS to align with other global aviation regulators, exceeding many of the FAA’s criteria well ahead of the May 2027 deadline. Flexjet’s commitment to improving safety practices and transparency in data sharing has contributed to advancing industry safety standards beyond the mandated guidelines.
Charles Starkowsky, Flexjet’s Chief Safety Officer, says: "We pride ourselves in our nonstop pursuit of best-in-class safety practices, ensuring our aircraft owners have the utmost peace of mind when in a Flexjet aircraft. It takes an organisation-wide culture of safety to be able to proactively build out a safety management system like this so far ahead of the FAA's deadline, and Flexjet is a prime example for the industry to follow."
Flexjet’s comprehensive SMS includes safety policies, risk management practices, assurance processes and safety promotion initiatives. The company has also earned a range of safety certifications, including a platinum safety rating from ARGUS, IS-BAO Stage II compliance and 25 consecutive years of the FAA’s Diamond Award for Excellence in Aviation Maintenance Technician Training.
